Week 4 is in the books! That's crazy to think right? Missing you all so much. I would love to hear from some of you! Feel free to email me if you want!

This week was awesome! Elder Christenson and I sure have a lot of funny stories! 

Did any of you accept my invitation? I sure hope you did! And if you didn't receive your answer it's because 1. your faith OR 2. you didn't listen. :)...Hope the first week of school for you seniors went well! All you seniors walk around like you own the joint. It's okay, I did too. The only difference between me, and you is that I really did. Haha. 

Anyway, we think we found our family for September! Please pray for Angela and Logan and their 2 boys named Drake, and Logan! 

We have another appt. set up for this Thursday with this old lady named Erma who we plan to invite to be baptized this week! Pray for her! She's so sweet, and loves us. Just is a little scared. Which is okay! When we invite someone to be baptized, that is not a small task! We are asking them to take a leap of FAITH and literally change their way of life. But in the end we know that whatever effort we as mere mortals put forth on behalf of our own personal salvation, that what we receive will be more than 100 fold from the Lord. If the Gospel seems easy to live, you might be doing something wrong.

A couple of weeks ago our president issued us the challenge to contact at least 50 people every wee. I turned to my comp and told him that we would double that and that's exactly what we did! We contacted 112 people this week! And that was without a Tuesday, because we didn't have any time to proselyte because we had a training meeting all the way out in Oxnard!  I love talking to people, and I love testifying of Jesus Christ. There's no better gift that you can leave with someone than a brief testimony of the Son of the Living God. 

ONE of our miracles for the week! AND proof that God answers prayers: It was 8:55 at night and we had to be to our car by 9 to head for home. 

We were about 100 yards away from our car on Foothill, (a popular street at night). We knelt and offered up a quick gratitude prayer, and pleaded to see one last miracle before we got to our car. We said amen, stood up and headed for our car. FIVE seconds after our prayer we ran into a young man named Mark. He is a college student here at SLO. We introduced ourselves, testified of Jesus Christ, and he cut us off and said "I don't believe the whole 1800's story and I don't want to talk to you." He was referring to the first vision and Joseph Smith. He thought we worshiped Joseph Smith, which we do not, so that's what we told him...we SOMEHOW taught him a quick 10 minute restoration, gave him a BOM, and left him with our testimony. The last thing he said to us was.."I hope this is true, because if it is you just changed my life." The Spirit was so strong. We got Mark’s phone number, and address and he is expecting us later this week.

I bear you all my personal testimony of the reality of the Power that the Spirit holds. And the DRAMATIC DEFINING role the Holy Ghost plays in each and every one of our personal conversion. There is no earthly way, in a matter of 7 minutes, that Mark could have gone from "I don't want to to talk to you.” to "I hope this is true, because if it is you just changed my life." WITHOUT the divine power of the Holy Ghost. It was NOTHING that we said. It was the Spirit, and the Spirit only. All we did was create the environment for Mark where the Spirit was then able to work on him. Then Mark did the rest, by softening his heart, and accepting the fact that in the year of 1820, God the Father and his son Jesus Christ did indeed appear to a young 14 year old boy named Joseph Smith. We meet with Mark this week, and CANNOT wait to see how things go. Please pray for him!

SLO in the SLO - August 22, 2016

What Up! What Up! What Up!

Week three is in the books. Unlike the first 2, it was very SLO this week in SLO. haha get it? I went on exchanges twice this week! First with Elder Hamelin who is also from UT! I went to Morro Bay on Tuesday and spent the whole day there. It was awesome. It's literally on the ocean! I learned so much and was lucky to experience another area. Later in the week I went with an Elder from Heber City UT! Haha it was awesome. His name was Elder Dorius, and I learned soo much! He only has 3 weeks left! I love him so much. 

We met a lady named Angela this past wee. She has 2 little boys named Logan and Drake. I haven't met her husband yet. I don't know what it is but I have had a good feeling about this family. They are so sweet, and so kind. Elder Christenson and I extended a promise to our whole ward during testimony meeting. (3 weeks ago) We promised them that "with their help, and the Lord’s, that we are going to baptize a family in the month of September." Pretty cool huh? That is exactly what we are going to do. We both are so excited, and think this is it. We have already dropped several investigators and families. But the Lord will always provide. We are to find the elect, and to plant seeds. To find those who the Lord has been preparing. 

People here in SLO are very interesting. We live right next to Cal Poly, (college) and so we always run into young and old college students. I swear every person here owns a dog. (dad you wouldn't like it):) And every one here owns a motorcycle. (mom you wouldn't like it):) But my comp knows a lot about bikes, and I love dogs so it works great. For example…we will be walking down the street and everyone we see will try to ignore us, then all we have to do is whistle at the dog they are walking with, because then it will come right on over to us, and they can't do anything about it:) That's when we work. They get bugged at it, but we don't really care. :) 

My comp just calls it tracting or door to door but I like to call it "Big Work." I don't know it just sounds cool. Gotta do the big work so you can get the big boy results. It's amazing what kind of interactions we have with people. They love to talk, but as soon as they see the tag they shut down. You would be surprised how many times we get asked... "Do you work here?" or "Where is the liquid beverage section?”…whenever we are in the grocery store on Mondays.

Over the past couple weeks I have really learned the importance of the COMBINATION of sincere prayer, and diligent scripture study. If you want to talk to God pray, if you want God to talk to you read your scriptures. Please think about that. In, and of itself, we have the ability to communicate with the creator of all, the great and the powerful almighty God. Who loves us, and is begging for us to address him, and offer up the most deepest, most inner part of our hearts...PLEASE READ THOSE LAST TWO SENTENCES AGAIN. That is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

God has given us the ability/chance/blessing IF WE WANT TO, to receive personal revelation from God HIMSELF. Testifying to YOU the truth, or answer to whatever you may seek or need according to God's will. As representatives of Jesus Christ we as missionaries have the wonderful opportunity to extend invitations to everyone we meet, IF we feel we should. 

I would like to extend a invitation:

YOU: Starting when you read this email, address your Father in Heaven in SINCERE prayer and specifically ask him to if it be his will to open up your heart to anything He needs you to know, and pray to have His spirit as you do the thing I am about to tell you. AND SPECIFICALLY ASK HIM ONE QUESTION YOU HAVE BEEN WONDERING ABOUT. It must be specific and sincere . After you say amen, open your scriptures. Then open to wherever you are currently reading. Begin from where you last left off and read THREE verses. Having the Love of God in your heart, and consecrated Faith that God answers prayers, I promise you that your answer will be given unto you in those first THREE verses you read. Make sure and LISTEN. Your answer may not come in the actual words you read, but carefully and intently listen to the voice of the spirit. DO NOT listen with your ears, the true, unfailing pathway for personal revelation is your heart. 

Please do this, and I will be emailing a couple of you to see how it went...don't think so? okay:)

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most real thing we have today. Jesus Christ is at the helm.  It ALL has been given to us. If you only want to obey some of the commandments, only follow the spirit on your own terms? If that is the case...then get your own church. God will not be mocked. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not the church. They are to very different things. We do not become converted to the church, bishops, or apostles. We do not convert to President Monson. If YOU or your friend have left the church or are questioning the church because of something your bishop said, or a neighbor said? Then read this paragraph 100 times over. The church of Jesus Christ is the only true, and complete church on the earth today. 

I leave also a little invitation with you all as well which is to: Always have the words Jesus Christ on your lips.

Elder Judd Here...This week was crazy! So many things going on, in so little time. I love it all so much!

This past week we lost 2 investigators which was very hard. It sure puts a damper on your day when you get phone calls saying they want to be done, and don't want to see you again. Especially when they were so close! One of them was named Joe, who had already committed to be baptized the week prior. And that morning before we were about to set him with a date to be baptized on September 24th, he called us up and said No longer does he want to meet with us. So sad. As only my second week in the mission and to have my two (only) investigators say they want out 100% is hard to handle. Simply because you love them, you knew how close they were, and how much they needed it. It's okay though, we are here to find the elect. The people that god has been preparing. We are here to see miracles. That's what we have done, and will continue to do. We spend 3/4 of our day FINDING. door to door. Potential to Potential. I swear it seems like every person in SLO is just so content with where they are at in life. They are all very wealthy and "Happy". At least they think they are. Their a lot of weird people here in SLO, like crazzay. But it's ok:)... I love em. As I am constantly serving them, praying for them, preparing for them, teaching them etc..My love for every person here begins to grow. It's crazy in a way, but at the same time makes so much sense! I love testifying of the happiness, and sense of hope this message can bring your life if you let it. I find myself learning, and my testimony growing every time I talk to anyone.  I love missionary work. I love the spirit that it brings and the power that it contains.

With all the hatred, and no's we receive, at the same time it's wonderful to see that their are kind people everywhere. We have opportunities to run into one every once in awhile and it's amazing. Without a doubt a tender mercy sent from the hand of God. One of the things that keeps me going every day. Friends and Family God is in the details. To often do we find ourselves looking for the Big MIRACLE, or Vision, or "voice". Of the spirit. I challenge you all to as you go through out your week to simply spot one tender mercy that god put in your path. And if at the end of the week you haven't found one...? Your fault. Your not looking hard enough. 

That's only one thing I have learned here as a representative of Jesus Christ. Is that "God is in the details." 

I have gotten the chance to invite a numerous of people to be baptized. Most of them the first time we meet. And most of them say Yes! But as I said last week, they then won't let us in to share a 10 minute message. It's so hard, and it hurts. All these people want the promised blessings that come from living the gospel, but the problem is they don't want to live it. They just want the "good stuff." People want a God that not only doesn't rock the boat, but doesn't even row it. Their are costs that come with discipleship as well as the blessings. But in the end, the good will always outweigh the bad. We must be willing to LIVE the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are his church, this is the truth. Us missionaries don't know it all. We like to think that we do, but we don't. But we know enough. And that's exactly what we tell the people we meet. We know of something that can make you happy, and bring hope to your life. And can give you a purpose for living. They want that but, but they don't! Then when they say no, it kills us. Because we know the truth, and the truth is all that one needs in this life to be happy. 

Please pay for the People of San Luis Obispo CA. And that the missionaries in the field will strive to be more obedient.

We are so grateful for our children's friends, and it has been a sweet blessing to see a few of them who have been assigned to the Provo MTC while we are serving there.  We look forward to the day of their sweet reunion in a couple of years.  We imagine it will be similar to that of Alma and the sons of Mosiah...

First email from the field. Or in other words, 'Elder Judd and the topless lady.'

Hello again!!

OH MY GOSH!! Week one is in the books! I don't know where to start. I got to Ventura on Monday, and stayed at the mission home. Monday night me, and 3 other Elders slept at a members home in Ventura! They were so kind and we loved them so much! Tuesday I met my Comp! His name is Elder Christenson. He's from Salt Lake! He is the best trainer in the World. Tuesday afternoon when we were all done we drove to our first area! Which is in San Luis Obispo! (SLO) It's so beautiful here. It's more in the hilly parts of CA but is still really close to the Ocean! It's about 3 hours from Ventura. My whole mission is HUGE! And we're at the very top of it. We got to our Residence around 6 pm. Dropped off my stuff and ran and got the things I needed for that week. Like groceries and such. Then right after that we got right to work! I love being a missionary! The first day was but of a shock, but as the week went one it began to feel more and more like home. The people here in SLO are awesome! And I am really growing to love them more and more everyday as I strive to serve them more and more every day.

 At the same time their are a lot of interesting people in SLO. For example...Wednesday afternoon (my first full day in the mission) we went to visit this potential names Allix. It's one of my first days so Elder Christensen was kinda showing me the ropes. Anyways we walk up to this door, and my comp knocks...no answer.  After waiting about 30 seconds I then step up (thinking they will answer to me) I knock, and immediately after I'm done the door swings open with this woman standing their...Completely topless. Absolutely NOTHING on her top half! I was dead silent with my eyes shooting straight into hers. She then asked..."Can I help you?" I can't even remember what I said because, well ya know I was still in shock. Turns out it wasn't even Allix it was her roommate. That is just one of many weird things that happened this week.

Time is running short cause I'm a slow typer..I love every part of being a missionary. After searching, and searching, door slam, after door slam. We did find an elect. We simply were let in my a man named Joe. We taught Joe the Restoration, and the spirit was so strong. We could see the wheels turning in his head which is good. Which meant the spirit was working on him. More importantly Joe was LETTING the spirit work on him. This was simply a miracle passed down from the hand of God. Joe's wife had just birthed a new baby boy at the Hospital just 24 hours earlier. He has a 6 year old son as well.  Long story short, we invited Joe to be baptized and he accepted! We are aiming for early/mid September.

Our purpose as missionaries are to invite and help ALL to come unto Christ. Through, Faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.  How dare we not invite everyone we meet as missionaries to be baptized. And that is exactly what I do. They never let us come in, but for some reason we will stand on someone's porch for 45 minutes and they will simply just open up their deepest, and darkest secrets of their past. And then we simply bear testimony, as we feel prompted by the spirit to do so, then we invite them do be baptized. I can't tell you how many times we do that! AND!!!!! We have never gotten a no. It's always a "Yes"...or " IF I KNEW IT WAS TRUE." Then when we are done, we simply ask if we can come in and share a 15 minute message with them and they say "no." 

Here are two very young teenagers who think they know a whole lot about life, going around asking people to let them into their homes and promise that they wont take longer than 15 minutes. And if you let it, this message will change your life. It contains EVERY answer you are looking for. And you accept the invitation to enter into that saving ordinance, and everlasting covenant. But you still don't want it. 

We as latter day saints hold the greatest secret in the world. Which how to be happy. How dare you not share it? Sure it's scary. Sure you might be judged. Sure you might be spit upon. Sure you might be called a hiss and a bye word. But at that very moment. in the words of Elder Holland..."You are walking shoulder to shoulder with the most perfect life this world had ever seen. The most perfect missionary."  Jesus Christ.

I love being a missionary. I am learning so much every second of every day. I am learning more, and more about my savior each day. He's my friend. I love him, and that love will only continue to grow as I do what I am doing every day.

Serving a mission is the hardest think I ever loved. I am working hard, and loving it. I have been set apart as a representative of the great mediator. And with that comes a required higher way of living. And in return, abilities indescribable. I love these people, I love the work, and I love my companion.

The last email from the MTC.

Hi Fam and Friends!

Week two went by so fast! I can't believe that I will be in California in 4 days. This MTC has been amazing, and life changing. But at the same time I am so excited, and ready to enter the field! I have been learning so much everyday! My love for my companion has grown even more since the last email I sent you guys. We are working very hard, and having fun everyday while doing it. I love being a missionary!

This week was great. Went by so fast! We have two investigators and on is named Sam who is from tonga. He's an ex-marine and is very large. At first it was very hard to gain that TRUST with him because he's had some scuffles with the church and other members in the past. He was very hesitant. But lesson after lesson, his guard seems to lower every time we meet with him. He has accepted the challenge to read and pray about the BOM, Which he has been doing for 3 days now. And when we show Heavenly father our desire to loose our pride, and come unto him..that is when the spirit is able to work. And this is exactly what is happening to Sam. And my companion and I can't help but be happy. We love to work. It makes us happy. Last time I talked about that friendship. Everyday I begin to see how I am fueling that relationship. Which is exactly what I want. But more importantly is what my Heavenly Father wants from me. I have been set apart as a missionary for HIS church. Who was called of God. I am an actual representative of Jesus Christ. Pretty cool huh? Be jealous.

Our next investigator is Dongo (tong-how). He's from  South Korea. He's been learning English for about 10 months now, which makes the communication a little tough. But luckily the spirit is on our side, who doesn't require language to speak to him. He's a 25 year old who lives in Provo. He's family practiced Buddhism. But as he grew he wanted to know of the truth for himself. And has still "yet" to find it:)..He's very open, and wants to know the truth! He started reading the BOM two days ago and has been praying. And it unaware of what this "feeling" is every time he reads this book. Little does he know that is the Holy ghost. Which is really what we are feeling on leading towards when we meet with him tomorrow. One of the many things I have been learning here at the MTC is how to Prepare with the spirit. As we strive to prepare for each individual investigator, and follow the spirit's promtings on what and how to prepare. We then show God that we really want nothing but the best for this person. And when we have prepared by the spirit, and maybe the lesson goes south, we know have prepared the way the lord wants us too, and we will still have the spirit. Which is all that matters. As it says in D&C..."If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear."

Remember Jose who I talked about last time!? We followed up again, set a date for Baptism! September 3rd is the day Jose will enter the waters of Baptism. He knows so much, and has a desire to know more! His eyes have been opened, and a new journey awaits him. We seem him every day, and without fail September 3rd always comes up. He has been reading the BOM, and praying everyday since we first day we met him. Which was 10 days ago. When we wholeheartedly combine sincere prayer, and diligent scripture study, the Lord is bound. And their is NO WAY we will not receive personal revelation from the God. I challenge you all to never go without praying when you study your scriptures. As I have, do that for 1 week straight and compare the results. Not just Jose, but all of my investigators have impacted my life in so many ways, and they don't even know they do it. Elder Holland talks about how before any missionary does the converting, he/she must convert themselves. 

I am so happy, and proud of Jose for making the necessary changes in his life to enter into this sacred covenant. 

I have loved every second, of every day here at the MTC. I am ready to serve the people of Ventura California. The only sad part is that I will have to say goodbye to most of my district. I have truly come to Love every one of them. (don't worry mom they're all elders.) There are 12 missionaries in our district. Which is rare. But I know without a doubt, and we talk about it every night, that we were all put together for a reason. The Lord works in mysterious ways. I cannot wait to see what the future holds. But I know without hesitation that as I strive to be perfectly Obedient, and listen to the promptings of the holy Ghost, the future is bright. 

My path is set, my gait is fast, I am apart of the fellowship of the unashamed. I love you all. The next time we talk, I will be serving my mission in California Ventura!

First email from the MTC.

Hello family and friends!

Well, my first week at the MTC could not have been better! I have loved every second of it! I absolutely love being a missionary! I know that being a missionary is one of those things where you don't really know what to expect until you're "in it" That's why it is so important to prepare. You can never prepare too much to serve the lord. Just like the Atonement, always striving to do better, and BECOME better. 

I love my companion Elder Reichman. He's 6'5 and from Colorado. He is a very nice kid, and loves to work. Which is a tender mercy from the Lord I know. One of my biggest fears of going on a mission was me having a companion who is lazy, and doesn't like to work. I know I will have one down the road. But I wanted to hit the ground running from a teaching perspective. And that is exactly what we have done. I have come to know that the more I strive to serve my companion everyday, the easier the lord makes it for me to love him more and more. 

Anyways, this week has been crazy! Once again, I love being a missionary. At night I am so surprised, because I have never felt so tired in my life. But at the same time so incredibly happy. On Wednesday when I got to the MTC, and swear I had every other missionary coming up to me smiling and saying: "Welcome to the MTC!!" Very loud. I totally understand the concept, and loved it. But 4 hours later when Elder Judd hasn't eaten in a couple hours he gets a little "hangry" and those high spirited, very happy missionaries come right up to you and shake your hand and say "Welcome to the MTC!! Welcome to the MTC!!" I thought to myself two things...1. Stop saying that, it's annoying and I'm about hurt you." And then I thought to myself this.. 2."Why is it that these missionaries are so happy?" 

Anyways as the week went on, living everyday as a servant of the lord, studying constantly in a classroom for ten hours every day, praying more than I ever have every day, learning how to teach, preparing to teach every day, building my faith in Jesus Christ every day, striving to be a Perfectly obedient missionary every single day, building my testimony by the minute, maybe  even without me knowing it some times. As I continue to do this things, day in, and day out, every single day while I am here at the MTC.  I have received my answer to: "Why are all these missionaries so happy?" And the answer is simply that of a Friendship they have. This  friend is not of this world. If this friend can trust you, this friend will show you things. Things about yourself. Things about yourself you could not fathom yourself doing without the help of this friend. This friend can tell you "all things what ye should do." If this friend can trust you, he will simply make you happier than you could ever be on your own.  Does he trust you? And more importantly...Do you trust him? Do you trust his voice? This friend of mine, of all of us,  is the Holy Ghost. This is the answer I received about these beautiful, kind, welcoming missionaries. Is that all of these young people have a bond that simply cannot be broken accept it be by their agency. And how do you build that trust with that friend? You be OBEDIENT. You include in your life, what us missionaries are doing every day. You SEARCH the scriptures, you pray pleading to Lord if you can have that trust, you begin to pray more than you ever have. Everyday. You begin to have a change of heart. You show God that you have a desire to serve him. You repent every day, not just by praying. But by changing your ways, your acts, and your heart. You shake off the "Natural man", because we know that the Natural man is an enemy to God, and no unclean thing can live with God. 

I am so happy, every single day. I am simply serving a mission because of my Testimony, and I am using the love that I have for my God as my motivation.

The Work!! The work at the MTC has been amazing! I have 2 investigators name Joshua, and Jose. Josh is a 20 year old that actually goes to UVU which is pretty cool! Josh struggles with an addiction. An addiction MUCH STRONGER than any illegal substance. This addiction is Pornography. As we began to visit with Josh, we wanted just to simply "break the ice" with him. We wanted to build that TRUST with Josh. That same exact trust I talked about earlier. Josh began to do exactly what we wanted him to. We could feel the spirit enter the room and begin to work on him. Josh's mouth could not be still. He began to open up to us. Which is exactly what we wanted. Josh doesn't (didn't) know why Pornography was bad. He looked (looks) at pornography as an "outlet" for his problems. Something that he went to several times a day. Something that would ease his pain. Which is exactly what the adversary wanted Josh to think. Anyways Josh had so many questions for us which was good. Questions about this "Spirit" that we had been casually bringing up. As Josh began to open up to us more, and more. That is when the spirit was able to start on him. As he brought his guard down, and as he felt the love that these two teenage boys who think they know a lot about life had for him. And that is something we could not fake. Josh was still questioning if their was a God. After talking with him for about fifteen more minutes, we closed with challenging him to see if he would commit to us that he would "before he got into bed tonight, will you get on your knees and pray to God and simply ask him this"... Are you there? and Josh said yes. Josh let us know for some reason, he didn't know why. That he wants to learn more. Specifically about this 

"Holy ghost thing." We then challenged Josh to say a closing prayer for us. Him not knowing how, we taught him. Josh then simply said an amazing prayer. The spirit was so strong. And Josh knew, through the spirit, that their is light at the end of his tunnel. Their will always be light. It's just up to him if he wants to access it. 

I am running out of time so I will have to make this one quick.  Jose is a 26 year old from LA. He struggles from a severe sleeping disorder and depression. Long story short. Jose is a very bright, kind, open minded young man. He studies religion for a living. The first and second lesson were really focused on breaking that ice, and building that TRUST with Jose. Our second meeting together we taught him the Plan of Salvation. The spirit was so strong and he could feel it. We all could, and their was no denying. We were all very emotional, and the truth that the spirit was testifying of could not be harnessed. Jose ended the lesson with something I did not expect. He bore a powerful testimony of how he knows without a doubt, that "we are representatives of Jesus Christ. And I can feel the Holy ghost working through you, to me."  30 Seconds later Jose accepted his invitation to be baptized. Jose has been reading the BOM, and praying daily. We will be setting a date with him on Saturday. 

That's all I have time for! So much more to tell you about the first week in the work of gathering Israel! I love you all, and are praying for you all. God lives. I know it. Jesus is the son of the living God. Our savior. I challenge you all just as I have Jose, to gain that TRUST and grow that friendship. Because he is waiting, waiting to love you. Let your self be loved by doing what is necessary to receive it.
